The 20th Annual Gimli Film Fest Kicks Off!

The acclaimed film fest runs until July 26 with virtual streaming options!

Manitoba’s premiere film festival, Gimli Film Fest, kicked off its 20th anniversary online with two exciting and impactful opening night films. Gimli Film Festival opens at 7:00 PM CDT with maverick Icelandic director Rúnar Rúnarsson’s highly acclaimed Echo, which draws a biting and tender portrait of modern Icelandic society through 56 scenes.

The Body Remembers When the World Broke Open follows at 9:00 PM CDT. Directed by Kathleen Hepburn and Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers, the film weaves an intricate yet simple story of a chance encounter between two Indigenous women with drastically different lived experiences, navigating the aftermath of domestic abuse. The film is one of the most highly decorated Canadian films from the past year, picking up 3 Canadian Screen Awards in May 2020.
