2015 Iceland Winter Games: March 6-14

Iceland’s action-packed Winter Games will take place in Akureyri, the country’s ski capital.

In March 2015, Iceland’s second AFP slopestyle competition will take place in Akureyri, the ski capital of Iceland. The event will be held at Hlíðarfjall at Akureyri, a resort known for its high-quality snow, extensive cross country tracks and exciting ski slopes with breathtaking views.

AFP Free Ski Session | March 14 | 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

The freeski session begins with three groups: ladies, rookies (male skiers ages 12-15) and men (16 and older). The 12 best men’s riders, 8 best rookies and 8 best female riders then compete in the final round to win the prize.

This year’s impressive list of ski participants include Jesper Tjader (World Rank #6), Oystein Braaten (World Rank #7), Robert Franco (World Rank #10), Noah Wallace (World Rank #12), Cody Cirillo (World Rank #26) and many more! Click here to see a complete list of freeskiers.

IWG Open – Snowboard Competition | March 14 | 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

After practice sessions on March 12 and 13th, rookies (ages 10-14) and adults (ages 15 and up) participate in an open slopestyle competition. The top 8 riders will move on to the finals.

Participating snowboarders include Aron Snorri Davidsson, Baldur Bilhelmsson, Freddy Brideweser, Dagur Eli Gudnason and many more.

In addition to the main competition, participants and spectators can also partake in a wide range of unique sightseeing activities including cave exploration, volcanic eruption and northern lights sightseeing and snowmobile or horse riding tours.
